The Norwegian Public Roads Administration strives to ensure that all those who walk, cycle, travel by car or use public transport should get to their destination safely.

They plan, build, operate and maintain national and county roads in Norway. They are also responsible for carrying out driver tests and inspection of vehicles and road users. They do the inspection of vehicles before registration in Norway, and they perform roadside inspections.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration is responsible for the approval and supervision of private garages and inspection stations, which perform periodic technical inspection.

They are also responsible for developing and operate relevant IT systems.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration comprises the Directorate of Public Roads and five regional units – Northern Region, Central Region, Western Region, Southern Region and Eastern Region – and has 72 Driver and Vehicle Licensing Offices and five Traffic Control Centres distributed across the country.
