Innovating dialogue and problems appraisal for a safer Africa
On Tuesday, 11th of October 2016, the kick-off meeting of the project SaferAfrica – “Innovating dialogue and problems appraisal for a safer Africa” took place in Rome hosted by La Sapienza University, as project coordinator. SaferAfrica officially started on the 1st October 2016 and will last for 36 months.
The project has been approved and funded by the EC in the frame of the Horizon 2020 “Mobility for growth” call for proposal 2015 within the “Smart, Green & Integrated transport” Work Programme. The project coordinator is the Italian University “La Sapienza” while the project consortium is based on the participation of 16 partners coming from different European and African countries.
SaferAfrica aims at establishing a Dialogue Platform between Africa and Europe focused on road safety and traffic management issues. It will represent a high-level body providing recommendations for the update of the African Road Safety Action Plan and the African Road Safety Charter, as well as fostering the adoption of specific initiatives, properly funded.
The meeting was opened by the coordinator Prof. Luca Persia and saw the participation of the European Commission (EC) project officer, Mr. William Bird.
The consortium put the basis for the beginning of the project activities, sharing views and expectations of short and long term objectives.
